a little about me
My passion for media began at age 10, when I decided to start an Instagram fan page for the 2012 Olympic Gymnastics Team. I experimented with creating graphics and video montages of my favorite gymnasts and posted them to the account, without realizing that this fifth grade hobby would turn into an account with over 45,000 followers in under two years.
For whatever reason, my interest in graphic design stuck. I started to dream of one day becoming an editor of a fashion magazine like Vogue or Elle. This dream job of mine, which remained unwavering in the back of my mind for several years, led me to joining the Publications staff at my high school, Cape Fear Academy.
After being a general staff reporter for the yearbook and newspaper in my first two years of high school, I finally was selected for the Activities Section Editor role in my junior year. I enjoyed writing the dominant stories for our page and occasionally making the front page as well. However, what I found most enjoyable was editing others’ copy and formatting everything onto the page.
My eye for detail and knack for design transferred over to my work for the yearbook, in which I had the chance to design, write, and collect content for multiple spreads by myself. I was ambitious with my designs, attempting to escape the box of clean-cut white lines and templates. At the beginning of senior year, I was selected to be the Yearbook Editor-in-Chief. I had the chance to create the book’s front and back cover, as well as style guide for the rest of the book, and lead discussions on content and aesthetics.
Ultimately, these experiences led me to pursuing a major in Media and Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. However, my presence on campus extends far beyond just going to class. I’m currently serving as the Co-President for Carolina Thrift, a sustainability initiative that hosts clothing drives and secondhand clothing sales on campus. Additionally, I am a paid graphic designer for 1893 Brand Studio, in which I create advertisements for real businesses, and I design for Coulture Magazine as well. Additionally, I am a Caraway Crew Member for start-up digital healthcare platform Caraway. Lastly, I was recently accepted into the first-ever cohort of the Certificate in Fashion Communication and Marketing through the Workroom FashionMash program on campus, and will be completing my certificate in the Fall 2024 semester.
In my sophomore year (2023-2024), I immersed myself into the world of business, through several clubs at UNC — Carolina Women in Business (CWIB), UNC Marketing Club, and Women in Consulting at Carolina (WICC). This past year, I served on the marketing committee for CWIB’s annual philanthropy, Jewels of Hope, and competed in the Marketing Club’s 2024 Procter & Gamble Marketing Case Competition (and placed 2nd)! In the 2024-2025 school year, I will be serving as the Vice President of Marketing for WICC and the Vice President of Design & Social Media for the Marketing Club.
In Fall 2023, I was also accepted into UNC’s Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship to pursue a minor in Entrepreneurship. This summer, I will be completing my capstone in entrepreneurship while simultaneously working as a Marketing Intern for Manifesto Market in Prague, Czech Republic, through a study abroad program hosted by the Shuford Program. I can’t wait to get started!
